YouGov Cannabis Survey Reveals What We Already Know

A majority of Americans have consumed cannabis at some point in their lives, reflecting the country’s growing acceptance of the plant. Of those, 24% have done so within the past year and 17% in the past month. 

That’s according to a 420 YouGov poll, which surveyed 1,148 us adults in early April. The random sample was weighted based on criteria such as gender, age, race, age, and various other factors to represent the country’s broad demographic of adults.

The results of the YouGov poll mark another positive step in pot’s public perception across America.

The survey found that most Americans consider cannabis a healthier choice compared to other popular vice-relate consumption options. Of those polled, 58% of respondents and 80% of past consumers consider cannabis safe. 

Analysts report that a majority of Americans consider alcohol (64%) and tobacco (63%) to be more harmful than cannabis. 

Respondents also felt that cannabis could be a medical option, with 76% agreeing that the plant may help treat specific health conditions.

Results on Consumption Options

Legalization has opened an array of consumption options to the public, ranging from traditional smoked flower to a plethora of edibles, vaporizers, extracted oils, topicals and more. 

While a variety of consumption options are now available through the legal market, flower remains the most commonly used method. Of those polled, 61% reported using THC or CBD form at some point in their life. 51% of people who have used cannabis in their life have done so with an edible.

CBD is another popular option among Americans, with 37% of US adults reportedly using a product infused with the cannabinoid. The results also noted that people who use cannabis are more likely to use CBD (83%) as well as Delta 8 or Delta 9 products (52%). 

Results on Legalization

The survey noted that 52% of Americans believe legalization would help the economy, a view reflected across almost every prominent political affiliation. 

Democrats (71%) are the most supportive, with Independents (67%) not far behind. Among Republican voters, 46% support legalization.
