Interest in medical cannabis oil has increased exponentially in recent years as news stories about suffering patients finding relief from the substance have spread to virtually every corner of the planet.
Medical cannabis has been found by many suffering patients to be safe and effective at treating their condition(s).
That is true for all types of ailments, including and especially severe seizures caused by epilepsy which seems to be a condition that is particularly responsive to this type of therapy.
In the United Kingdom, government health workers are considering manufacturing their own medical cannabis oil.
Is that a good idea? Will it help?
UK National Health Service
A clinical trial in the United Kingdom is expected next year.
Rather than source that medical cannabis oil from private entities, the United Kingdom’s National Health Service seems to be pursuing a strategy that involves the government entity making its own medical cannabis oil.
On one hand, it is great to know that there will be more medical cannabis oil to help suffering patients in the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, it’s tough to say whether it will be of high enough quality to effectively treat patients.
So many factors go into determining the effectiveness of medical cannabis oil, including the quality of the cannabis being used, the process of turning it into oil, the potency level, etc.
It’s quite possible that the National Health Service ends up producing quality medical cannabis oil, but if other similar government endeavors in other nations serve as a guide, the odds of that happening are not strong.
The United Kingdom Needs Better Cannabis Laws
What the United Kingdom really needs in order to help suffering patients is to update its terrible medical cannabis laws.
The United Kingdom legalized medical cannabis oil roughly 18 months ago, yet has failed to issue prescriptions for the effective form of medical cannabis.
That is obviously unacceptable.
Suffering patients in the United Kingdom deserve safe access to all forms of medical cannabis, as well as the right to cultivate their own cannabis.
Medical cannabis laws should be based on science and compassion, and not on the outdated political views of a handful of people, which is essentially what is occurring in the United Kingdom right now.
