The Science Behind the Most Popular Cannabis Consumption Methods

In recent years, cannabis has become more mainstream than ever before. Thanks to legalization efforts worldwide, people are starting to recognize the benefits of this plant. With greater acceptance has come a variety of new ways to consume it.

But what is the science behind these methods? This blog post will take a closer look at the most popular cannabis consumption methods and explore how they work. Stay tuned!

How Bongs Work

To start, a bong is a cannabis consumption device that looks like a beaker. Bongs are made up of a few parts, such as the body, a mouthpiece, a downstream, and the bowl. Once ground cannabis is placed inside the bowl, it is ignited using a combustion method, and the smoke created passes through the water in the bong and into the lungs of the user who has their mouth over the mouthpiece.

The most critical aspect of the bong is the water that it is filled with. The water does two jobs; firstly, it acts as a filtration system, and the tar and ash are filtered out. Secondly, the water cools the smoke before it reaches the user’s lungs. This makes the hit a lot smoother and prevents a burning sensation in the throat. Some accessories can be used to increase the smooth hit that can be received.

How Dry Herb Vaporizers Work

One of the most popular marijuana consumption methods on the market today is dry herb vaporizers. One of the key benefits of dry herb vaporizers is the fact that they are portable, and also don’t create harmful carcinogens or toxins, due to the cannabis being vaporized and not burned.

Most dry herb vaporizers you’ll find at MagicVaporizers consist of the herb chamber where the cannabis is placed, a battery to power the device, an interface that allows users to select a temperature, and a mouthpiece.

Once the cannabis is placed inside the chamber, the user selects a temperature and begins vaping. Depending on the device, it might be a convection vaporizer or a conduction vaporizer. Conduction vaporizers require the cannabis to touch the heating element, and convection vaporizers circulate hot air around the cannabis like an oven.

How Dab Rigs Work

Another popular cannabis consumption method is the dab rig. When looking at it for the first time, you might think it was a bong. Dab rigs operate similarly to bongs, and are constructed in a very similar way. Dab rigs consist of parts such as the downstream, a nail, a base, a mouthpiece, and a glass dome.

Using a dab rig is fairly simple; the nail needs to be heated up by a torch, and the concentrate should be placed on the nail using a dabber or wand.

Then the user simply inhales the vapor that is created. In addition to concentrating, shatter or wax can also be used. Dab rigs have become popular since they allow users to consume a lot of THC content, without needing to consume tons of cannabis.

How Edibles Work

Finally, the last popular cannabis consumption method on this list is edibles. Edibles, as the name would suggest, require the user to eat the product. Edibles can also take the form of beverages. In either case, an edible either food or beverage that has been infused with THC and, as such, also allows the user to consume large amounts of THC.

Edibles are one of the most potent methods of consuming cannabis because of the way that it is absorbed by the body.

When smoked, the THC goes to the lungs and then to the bloodstream and brain, which is a direct route. However, when THC is eaten, it first needs to go to the gastrointestinal tract.

The THC is then metabolized and absorbed before making its way to the liver, where it is metabolized and absorbed again. Because this route is longer, the body can absorb even more cannabinoids before entering the bloodstream.
