We are living in truly stressful times. The coronavirus pandemic is affecting families all over the globe right now and it’s a heartbreaking situation.
To make matters worse, a number of scams are popping up all over the world, with bad actors trying to take advantage of other people during the pandemic, often with the use of online communication technology.
One scam that is becoming more widespread with every passing day is people selling CBD products and products made from other ‘cannabinoids’ claiming that the products can treat, or even cure, coronavirus.
People, desperate to try anything to combat the coronavirus, are reportedly purchasing the products in countries all over the globe.
Can Cannabis Cure The Coronavirus?
To be directly and unequivocally clear – there is no scientific proof that the cannabis plant can cure or even help treat those that are suffering from the virus.
If you see anyone claiming otherwise, ask them for proof such as peer reviewed studies, and you will learn very quickly that the person will be unable to produce anything other than blank stares and/or misdirection attempts.
This is not to say that cannabis will never be able to help with coronavirus, because there’s always a possibility that after extensive research and development that a cannabis-derived medicine could treat a number of conditions, including coronavirus.
However, there’s no guarantee that will happen, Cannabis consumers, or would-be cannabis consumers, need to continue to listen to their doctors when it comes to anything related to coronavirus. Do not listen to the scammer trying to sell CBD products over the internet.
Claims Are Not Always Direct
Some false claims are very easy to spot. If someone says that their cannabis product will cure coronavirus, they are lying and easy to disregard and/or report.
However, some claims can be much less straightforward to spot as being false.
A common one is that cannabis can provide wellness benefits and therefore make you healthier, and thus make you better suited to avoid getting the coronavirus or being cured of it if you are infected with it.
The cannabis plant does indeed possess numerous wellness properties, however, that doesn’t mean that it somehow makes a person invincible when coming into contact with the coronavirus.
As is always the case when it comes to health claims regarding cannabis, do your research, and let science lead the way. Proceed with caution!
Help Spread Awareness
It is the duty of all members of the cannabis community to refrain from spreading misinformation regarding cannabis and the coronavirus, and to educate people that appear to be spreading misinformation online and elsewhere.
The cannabis plant can do many things, however, until there is firm proof that cannabis can be effective at treating this virus, just as with any other virus for that matter, expectations regarding use need to be based in reality and not sensationalism.
