Before the Las Vegas Convention Center doors swing open for MJBizCon, the cannabis industry’s biggest week unofficially begins a mile away at a reggae bar called Jammyland. For one evening each December, the neon-lit patio transforms into a nexus of innovation where founders, engineers, investors, and media gather not to pitch or posture, but to connect. That’s the ethos behind Tech Jam 2025, the now-annual high-tech kickoff event co-hosted by Sorting Robotics, Canix, RollPros, LeafyPack, Green Lane Communication, and First Citizens Bank.
This year’s edition, set for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, marks Tech Jam’s third year as the laid-back prelude to MJBizCon, and the event’s biggest yet. Organizers expect to surpass last year’s sold-out crowd of 400-plus attendees, drawing many of the same decision-makers who will spend the rest of the week on the trade show floor.
A Community Built on Collaboration
“Tech Jam is meant to feel different,” said Barry Baughman, marketing manager at Sorting Robotics. “It’s casual, it’s social, but it’s also where some of the most meaningful conversations of the week happen. The energy is collaborative, not competitive.”
That sense of openness has helped Tech Jam evolve from a networking mixer into an essential stop on the cannabis tech circuit. Guests mingle over custom terpene-infused cocktails, this year featuring Forbidden Fruit and Northern Lights blends, while swapping insights on automation, AI, and data integration in cannabis operations. The event’s “quick-shot” media interview zone, co-branded photo booth, and 360° camera setup turn casual conversation into shareable, real-time content.
Where Innovation Meets Atmosphere
If MJBizCon represents scale, Tech Jam represents precision. The event’s co-hosts, each at the forefront of cannabis technology, use the evening to strengthen relationships and introduce new ideas in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. Brands like Canix and Sorting Robotics have become synonymous with innovation in cannabis automation, while Green Lane Communication bridges the gap between tech providers and the media.
“It’s not about selling; it’s about storytelling,” said Michael Mejer, founder of Green Lane Communication. “When you gather so many bright minds in one place, the conversations that happen naturally are what drive the industry forward.”
A Night of Flavor and Future Thinking
Between jerk chicken skewers, espresso coconut ice cream sandwiches, and co-branded swag bags, the 2025 lineup is as flavorful as it is forward-thinking. A raffle for a Unitree Go2 robotic dog adds a playful, futuristic touch, which is fitting for an event centered on technology’s role in reshaping cannabis operations.
The Unofficial Start of MJBiz Week
What began as an experiment in 2023 has matured into a tradition. For many attendees, Tech Jam isn’t just a party; it’s a pulse check for where the industry’s innovation energy is heading next.
As Mejer put it, “MJBizCon is about what’s big. Tech Jam is about what’s next.”
